Record winter rainfall is setting the stage for one of the most spectacular superblooms in California history!

Death Valley National Park received over 2.4 inches of rain from September to November 2025 — more than it typically gets in an entire year. The National Park Service expects a bloom that would be the first true superbloom in about a decade.

🌸 WHERE AND WHEN TO SEE IT

🏜️ Death Valley — Best overall prospects, peak: late February - early April
🌵 Anza-Borrego Desert State Park — Early blooms already appearing in February! Peak: mid-February to mid-March
🌺 Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve — California poppies, peak: mid-March to April
🪨 Joshua Tree National Park — Potential desert blooms
🏔️ Mojave National Preserve — Another wildflower viewing location

💡 TIPS FOR SOCAL RESIDENTS

• Anza-Borrego is closest — just ~2hrs drive from San Diego
• Death Valley is 4-5hrs from LA but worth it — superbloom happens once a decade!
• Antelope Valley is ~1.5hrs from LA — perfect for a day trip
• Arrive early morning — fewer crowds and better photo light
• Stay on trails — don't trample the flowers!

Fun fact: Even in areas affected by recent wildfires, unique "fire followers" may bloom — native wildflowers that only appear after fires, including wild snapdragons and dense stands of lupine.
