Tłusty Czwartek dates back to the Middle Ages. It's the last big indulgence before 40 days of Lenten fasting. Traditional pączki are deep-fried, filled with rose jam (powidła różane) or plum jam, and topped with icing or powdered sugar. Don't forget faworki (angel wings) - crispy fried pastry strips dusted with powdered sugar!
