Poland has a STRONG presence at the 98th Academy Awards! The Oscar ceremony takes place on March 15, 2026, and Polish artists are nominated in multiple categories.

🏆 POLISH OSCAR NOMINEES 2026

🎭 MAŁGORZATA TURZAŃSKA - Best Costume Design
Film: "Hamnet" (dir. Chloé Zhao) - 8 nominations total!

Turzańska may not be a household name, but her work speaks for itself. Her credits include "Stranger Things," "The Green Knight," and "Hell or High Water." For "Hamnet" - the story of William Shakespeare's son - she studied classical Elizabethan painting and works by Flemish Baroque masters, blending historical authenticity with bold imagination. Critics say she "completely turned Elizabethan costumes upside down."

Fun fact: At the Golden Globes, actress Jessie Buckley thanked the Polish crew and especially "Tomek and his pot of soup" - referring to crew member Tomasz Sternicki. This became an internet sensation!

🎬 MACIEK SZCZERBOWSKI - Best Animated Short Film
Film: "The Girl Who Cried Pearls" (with Chris Lavis)

Szczerbowski continues his tradition of surreal, tactile animation. The duo previously earned an Oscar nomination for "Madame Tutli-Putli." Produced by the National Film Board of Canada.

🎵 MORE POLISH CONNECTIONS

🎹 HANIA RANI composed the score for "Sentimental Value" (dir. Joachim Trier), which received nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress. While she didn't land a Score nomination, her music is described as central to one of this year's most celebrated films.

📸 ŁUKASZ ŻAL - the legendary cinematographer of "Ida" and "Cold War" (both Oscar-nominated) shot "Hamnet" but was surprisingly snubbed for Best Cinematography despite being a frontrunner. Still, his work shines in the film's 8 other nominations.

🏓 ALOJZY EHRLICH - A pivotal character in "Marty Supreme" (Best Picture nominee!) is inspired by this three-time Polish table tennis world silver medalist and Holocaust survivor, played by Géza Röhrig.

📅 Oscar ceremony: March 15, 2026
🎬 "Hamnet" - 8 nominations (including Best Picture!)

Go Poland! 🇵🇱🏆
